Fuel Shut off valve not working???
12/30/08 at 23:53:23

Ok, I have my fuel switch on the on position when I took my tank off. I had bno gas spilled......but when I turn it to reserve, it flows......when I turn it to the pri mode......gas still comes through.
Os my switch broken....if it's on, shouldn't the gas flow.....cause it was on, and I had no leaks.......
\

just a little confused??? Undecided

Its a vacuum operated diaphragm. It flows on Prime, with the lever turned back to the rear, forward is reserve, down is on, there is no OFF position.

Is that what the PRI is for??

so when it's on the on, I'm good, if I run out of gas, turn the arrow facing left.........what's the function for prime?

Prime is for filling up the carb when the bike has been run out of gas or other reasons.

Turn to prime, wait 30 seconds, start bike, turn to on.

When Im running down the road & I feel it buck & coff as it runs outta gas, I rach down & pull it to prime, then after it catches I either swing it to reserve or just head for the station.

Still confused? There is no "off".

In the "ON" position, when the engine is running, the vacuum automatically opens the valve, and allows fuel.

"PRI" allows fuel without the engine running.

Ok plain and simple Sitting on the bike (Facing forward). Up and down is on. (Vacume opens the flow) The turn the lever clock wise it is Res (I should stop and get fuel) Counter clock wise Pri (I did not stop and get fuel so I had to push it to the station, now let me fill the bowl.)

Ok folks.....   his interesting and possible probelm comment was that gas flowed in reserve.

Rockamn,
Please verify,  are you saying with tank off,  you can get gas to flow in RES position?????????????

The porper operating LS650 petcock, with no vacuum, gas should only flow on prime (PRI).

That is why it is possible the OP is misinterpreting the selector.

I get it now.....the vacuum causes the flow.
What I was saying, I thought there would be an off switch.....when I took the tank off to airbrush it, I though there was an off button.
that's why I got confused when no gas was coming out on the on postion.

Thanks again guys.......noe, I had my birthday yesterday......and my head is ringing!! sleepy time!!
Hope everyone had a great new years eve day!!!! Grin
