Yup, you have the basic idea,...They look like little brass screws with tiny holes in the middle,...you just unscrew one and screw a different one in. They are in the floatbowl and screw up. If you just do the muffler, and don't do the air filter you may not have rejet. You may want to richen the idle mix,...that's harder than rejetting, 'cause you will have to drill out the idle mix plug, to access the screw,(right-side of carb, brass plug. You'll find more details in the tech section.
A good indicator of overall jetting is the weather...if popping/backfiring increases on humid days, or at higher elevation, that indicates rich....less popping on those days indicates lean.
To test the main, accelerate from 30 or 40 mph, in 4th or 5th gear at full throttle for several seconds, then reduce throttle by about 1/8,...if power increases for a second, you are lean on the main jet. Go up one jet size and test again.
