Removing burned plastic from Ex Header..??

oops... I hung my helmet from the front brake lever and didn't notice the strap dangling and melted against the hot header pipe.

Anyone know a way to remove it without scuffing up the chrome? It's burned on pretty bad Sad

Here's some good ideas from a thread in the Tech Docs section.

I melted a plastic bag on mine...tried many things, but heating it up with a torch and rubbing off the plastic with a cloth got it off with no marks!  Good luck!

I checked out the thread and the Nickel theory looks interesting. I'm gonna try it on my shoe scuffs on the exhaust tomorrow when its light out. I checked out oven cleaner in the store but the can said do not use on chrome

Nickel works every time for me. Just make sure you wear thick gloves, or you will have a brand on your finger.

Hi, try the product Blu Job from the stealership.  I dropped a plastic grocery bag one day and it melted all over my pipe.  I was mortified.  I had bought some of that powder to take off some of the blue on the exhaust pipe and I tried it on the plastic bag.  Some of it just peeled away once it was cooled down, and some of it came away by scrubbing with the powder.  It all came off and I breathed a great sigh of relief. Shocked

Ride safe,
Amy
