Savage not shifting.
09/15/08 at 13:41:38

Recently the shifting rod between my gear shift lever and the transmission of the bike broke in half. I ordered a replacement part and fixed it. Here's the thread dealing with that problem: http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1220735192/0

Well since I have reinstalled the new gear shift rod, I'm able to push the gear shift down and lift up with my foot like normal however the bike never clicks into another gear. The shift lever travels up or down and inch like it's supposed to, and I've got the clutch in like i'm supposed to, but the bike just doesn't shift.  I'm wondering if some transmission problem actually caused the shift rod to break. Any ideas?

Are you just testing the shifting with the engine off or will it not go in when you try to take off on it?

On the FireLizard, it is almost impossible to get the thing in gear unless the engine is running. But with the engine running I have no problems at all.

Well, I think I fixed it. I positioned the location where the shift rod meets the little twisty thing a little further back. Made shifting easier. Plus when the bike is on the road, (your right) it shifts a heck of a lot easier. I just need to adjust the height of my shift lever now.
