Rejetted carb, but still WOT dead zone
09/05/08 at 11:37:46

All,

Have a '96 Savage, all OEM stuff, air filter, muffler. I bought Lancer's kit and installed the 150 main jet, and all 3 washers for the spacer mod. Lowest and mid-range throttle are perfect. However, with WOT, still have a dead zone, almost as if there were too much fuel flowing.
Can this be right ?
If I put back my original jet, which I believe was a 145, can I leave the pilot jet in that came with the Lancer kit ?
What change in behavior might I expect ?
On a positive note, the BIG BANG is gone, but I still need the WOT throttle response.

Hmmmm....

So,  fuel circuits that react to throttle position are:
0 to 1/4 throttle: pilot / low speed screw & Jet
1/8 to 3/4 throttle:  needle position (spacers)
3/4 to WOT the size of Main jet.

With that said,  the 150 should be ok with a stock setup.   The WOT is a stumper,   how is it a 7/8 throttle?  In other words,  go  to WOT and then roll it back a little.......

Also,  check the plug.    Too much fuel will be black.   But  if you replced the pilot jet, then it might be black from too much fuel at slow speed.

If you're thinking its getting too much fuel at WOT, maybe time to ditch the stock air box/filter.

Just thinking aloud...

by they way - how much of a dead spot? - just a little bit - say like the
last 1/8 of the throttle - or anything past 1/2 throttle doesn't do much - so how dead is dead

Yeah, I would say the last 1/8 of the throttle.

Last 1/8 is bad...rolling off and I get immediate pickup.
I did change the spark plug to an Iridium plug. Would that make a diff ?

Oh, FYI, I don't recall the 'dead zone' with the stock main jet and pilot jet, but I would get the BIG BANG, which is my main reason for rejetting when i could not get rid of it with adjusting the air bleed

You need to increase your main jet.

And I'd put back the white spacer till this is right.
