Warm it up, shut it off for 2 min., hold it upright, look in glass...should be in the middle.

Keith,

you should see two lines to the right of the little round window. That is the not enough and to much lines. If you change the oil and filter it will take a little more then two quarts.

dang I type to slow.

2 quarts is right in line with a filter change(spec 2.1 qt)there is is .4 qt that comes out during an engine overhaul..
get a friend to balance the bike from the left side as you kneel down onn the right holdin the handle bar to level the bike and check the glass site to the rear of the right foot peg...with pratice you can do it alone but a  friends help with beers is...... Roll Eyes

Owners manual says 2.5 Quarts when replacing Oil and filter. So as long as you have 3 quarts on hand you are covered till the next oil change.

Put 2.5 in & you'll be draining it. Drain the oil, swap the filter, INSTALL DRAIN plug,, add 2 quarts, go for a ride, let it sit a couple of minutes, put it in first, get down on one knee with a drop light laying on the floor, reach up & grab the throttle, straighten the bars across the bike, pull down & across & stand the bike up, Slowly, feel it slowly stop resisting, then, it will start to press into your hand, as it comes over center. Push back, gently, rock it back & forth & you can feel when its traight up & down. Look at the sightglass. There are 2 lines, one ( as mentioned earlier) is for Not Enough Oil, the other, PLenty Full. I dont like being close to the bottom one, or over the top one, Its okay when its NOT perfectly full, as long as its not almost to the lower line.

Old guys like me use one of those inspection mirrors.  Sit on bike so you know you have it vertical.. check oil level using mirror.

2 quarts. More than that and you'll be draining the excess. Don't ask me how I know. Wink

Yeah, I made the mistake of going by the owners manual when i did my first oil change.
When i locate one i'm going to buy one of those mirrors on a antenna shaft thingies to check my level. It sucks having to get the wife to come out and help me check my oil level. lol
