difference in tire sizes?

I have been looking around at different tire options because I feel everyday that these stock IRC's are going to KILL me. I can not stand the way the perform or lack there of. I found some tires that I really like out there but we kind of have an odd rear tire size. What is the overall difference between a 140/80-15 and a 140/90-15? I see a lot more of the 90's out there for rear tires. I can find the front tires with no problem. Thanks for any help in advance.

Im running the 140/90 on the rear. The IRC was always squirmy, never did feel secure. Lasted 5,000 miles, tho, then,I felt qualified riding on ice, cuz thats what the crappy IRC felt like. Get a tirre on that thing.

140/90 is ok, just check your bike for clearance. There are a few bolt heads on the underside of the fender that if your tire is not centered will bite it.

ME880 140/80-15 allowable rims 2.75"-3.75", measured on a 3.5" rim:
Maximum width 145mm (5.71") Maximum diameter 619mm (24.37")
http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/tirecatalog_tire.asp?id=37
D404 140/90-15 on a 3.5" rim: width 5.85" diameter 24.73"

M6011 140/90-15 WW on a 3.5" rim: width 5.7", diameter 24.7"

Bridgestone/Firestone G702 140/90-15 3.5" rim, 5.8" x 25.2"
The ME880 140/80-15 is the Nominally correct size. Going to 140/90's:
Maxxis is the same width and only 1/6th of an inch larger radius.
Dunlop the same 1/6" larger radius but .15" wider.
The Bridgestone is .2" wider and nearly a .42" greater radius!

Hey Toymaker - Did you have any clearance issue with the 150 tire? Other that the normal bolt issues?

Nope...the only problem I have is when I 2-up. I had to put the shocks on the highest preload when my daughter and I ride together...but I am a little beefy...230 lbs.
other than that....nope

Sweet thanks, I would have gotten back to you guys sooner but we were out on a Poker run for kids with Diabetes. That maxxis tire is exactly the one that I'm looking at. I knew it wouldn't be a huge difference but just wanted to make sure. I got my bike in late feb with 1600 miles on it and today I went over 4700 and the back tire is starting to look a little flat.
