Comfortable Seat
05/20/08 at 17:50:14

Yeh so I am tired of my tailbone hurting like all heck after riding for an hour.

Can someone recommend a good seat replacement? I know a lot of people put on a sportster seat but I've heard good and bad things about them.

I want something real comphy since I plan to put on a few miles this summer.

So please suggestions Cheesy

I suppose a lot depends on your budget and abilities.  My budget is slim, but I found that with a little patience, and a healthy sense of adventure, I was able to modify the Savage seat.  It is now more comfortable than the chair I'm sitting in to type this, and cost about $20 for materials.  It took quite a bit of time, due to having to figure things out, but I think I could do it again in 3-4 hours.   You can see it here if you're interested in that route:

That's the only experience I have in changing seats, for whatever it's worth.  Others will have to tell you about seats from different bikes.  I hope you find what you want, because that stock seat is a real pain.

If you're serious about comfort, check out Gort's posts on H.D. seat with springs.  Now that's comfort!

I've ridden for 4 hours on this seat, without pain or discomfort.  The original Savage seat was good for 30 minutes, for me.  It makes no difference how stiff your shock absorbers are, nor how much the bike vibrates.  You are floating on long seat springs, mounted to a very comfy Police seat.  Only thing is, with this seat there is no room for a back seat, and you must have at least a 30" leg inseam.

Yeh I'd like to get one of those but... My woman sometimes rides with me and she might not want to sit on the fender.

How do the Sporters Seats that are Touring rate? They look like they are more comfortable with more padding.

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut between the seat and the handlebars. Make sure yours isn't too tight or too loose.

Yep

Seat evolution

That sheepskin came from a carseat.  I just got a new one from Ikea.
Ludde Sheepskin
A bit lighter in color.  Haven't put it on yet, but should fit ok.  And, it's a single piece instead of pieces sewn together.

Did you have to buy more than one, or is one enough to cover it all?

You still have the airhawk in your seat?  If so, how do you like?

Just one Ludde Sheepskin.  Should cover it all ok (driver and pillion), and my seats aren't shaped quite like stock anymore.  The driver seat is lower, but wider.  The pillion is higher.
I did have my son take my old seatcover sheepskin to the store to make sure he got a Ludde that was at least as big as that seatcover.  I don't know if they come in various sizes.. or not.  ( All sheep aren't the exact same size!!)
