Poor winterization HELP NEEDED Please
04/19/08 at 13:40:52

I put up the bike for the winter and did  not put into practice all I know about winterization. Just stuck it in a shed, There was just to much going badly at the time. While I went to get my bike the other day and after finally getting it started it would not stay running. I changed out the gas today. ( that's right didnt even use sta-bil) Drain both the tank and the carb bowl. Bike started right up with out issue. It evantually did die on me and I can't get it started again. Definalty the battery. I removed it from the bike (pita) and I am going to put a charge on it tonight I hope. Question is why would the bike kick out? How long would it or should it take to keep the bike running after sitting there for three and a half months?  I am thinking maybe the plug but why would the plug foul from just sitting there a few months. I put it in new last summer. Would the carb be gummed up after on a few months?  I am going to use sea foam. I really don't want to rip the carb down if I dont have to. I really am not all the mech inclined. (even after looking at whaine's tips)Any ideas would be great. sorry for the ramble but the weather has been great and I want to ride!

edit please pardon the spelling Tongue
Another edit. I checked the fuel line, the vac line and both look ok.  Drained the tank using pri so the pet thingy seems to be working as it should.

I kind of thought so. Could be why the bike cut out when I let off the throttle? So you think I have to rip the carb down and clean or do you think that sea-foam would work?  Another question, does this bike need the battery to keep running or is that the job of the retifier? The battery is discharged. Would that prevent the bike from conitued running?

Once the bike is started the state of the battery shouldn't matter. A low battery will put a little extra load on the engine so the idle may seem to be low, but if you can try to go for a ride.

Pulling the carb and cleaning it would be the best route to go, but you can try the sea foam, or I use techron if I'm using an additive, to see if it helps. You may have to take the carb apart anyway.

Check the air filter as well, I have seen mouse nests built up in exhuasts and intakes that could really cause problems. Smiley
