Great..and I can't remember crap..let me try...:

2001 On Ebay: $1837 + $50ish in gas for the ride to pick it up. 26k miles on it.

Came with problems and issues, a windshield, a ding and a few scratches, and after market exhaust that was broken (Supertrapp).  Sad
Since I've had it:

  • $5.88  -saddlebags (Brand new!!)
    $6-700.00 -to replace the transmission.
$40- mirrors (which I'm going to replace again)
$40ish- floor boards that I modded to fit.
$230ish- new Supertrapp (with the baffle actually there  Grin)
    $15- jet kit
    $5- spark plug
    $60ish- two batteries since 2005
    $10-20 -stock paint/clear coat pen.
    Too much in gas.
WAY too much in repairs/ tune up/ tires.

Items I intend on purchasing next week
:

  • $92.95 -HD Sportster Seat
    $8 - Misc screws/bolts/ 12" x 12" T Strap
    $2-250- New rear Progressive shocks.
    ?- New mirrors
    ?- New grips.

Maybe more to come!

I paid $3750 for an "07 with 285 miles on it.  Included OEM wind screen, engine guard, saddle bag mounts, and top of the line bags.  I have been cruising your recommendations for parts such as highway pegs before spending unwisely.

1988 LS650P w/ 15k miles.  KBB Value $1535 (NADA like $950ish, they are nuts).

$800 Bike cost (Not counting $50 to get it)
$25 (Plug, gasket, O-Ring)
$25 (Oil, plug, filter)
$65 (Header, Directional)
$22 Jet kit
$305 Tires
$28.00 Side Covers
$28.89 Pegs
$10.00 End Caps
$6.93 Swing Arm Plugs
$51.43 Fork/Dust Seals & Clip

Total Damage: $1367.25
Self imposed investment cap: $1500
Money Left to play with: $132.95 left

This does not include gear like saddle bags, new helmet, etc as that stuff is not really part of the bike ($215ish).  Does not include $140ish to register it or insurance.  I may be paying the stealership to do the fork seals due to time constraints and laziness (was a REAL PITA on my last bike).

So no matter what when I sell the bike it looks like I will be in the red, the trick is to keep the red as little as possible lol.

2500 to buy it.
Sold a ton of stock parts so I made up for almost all of my aftermarket ventures.

Bought my '87 for $1050.00, and the guy threw in a new front wheel, Guardian cover and new HJC 1/2 helmet.
Bike came with Brandywine Metal Flake paint, SuperTrapp, Flame mirrors, sissy bar and plug cap leak

What I put into it so far:
*Chrome Highway Hawk rider pegs-$50.00.
*Rear rack, forget how much I paid, think around $60 and well worth it.
*Disk 6 pack and open end cap for the Trapp, but sold them at about a $15 loss. Didn't care for the sound.
* Saddle bags and supports-$70.00 shipped.
* Big Crank. I forget what I paid for it, got it from battery mart.
* Bought a dented tank on ebay for $26.00, but sold it to a forum member for the cost of shipping. Lost a couple of bucks, but found a better deal (see below) on a tank with no body work required).
* Bought a "like new" tank (Still has safety stickers) from a 2005 for under $50.00 shipped, which will be stripped and painted at some point soon.
* Used odds and ends after the fall, spent about $70.00 so far for rear signals, brake lever and new cover.

New '96 model out of the crate in '99 ... FREE ... Father's Day ... #1 son is a VERY GOOD BOY !   Wink

- a lot of carb's and assorted mufflers, custom made performance cam, bored cyl with silicone carbide, a couple of tanks and several seats, a few extra wheels and brake systems....... est. about $3k +/- but sold many parts also, plus and insurance settlement for road damage, so all together I am probably on the upside $1-2 k   Cheesy

Paid $1500

guessing $350 in improvements = $1850

at least $3,000 of my own elbow grease,... I'm not gonna' count that...

tires and oil,..... not gonna' count that either...

...the older she gets, the less she's worth, and the more I put in her, but I don't care...
I wouldn't sell her for less than $5,000..........
I love my girl,.... but even love has it's price...... that's five big ones,... any takers?...... Huh
Na,... didn't think so........

I'm up there way Jay... My leftover 07 when I bought it in April 08 was $4000 (plus taxes and tags, and the crappy extra fees that get tossed on).

Add on the windshield, sissybar set, saddlebags and brackets, and Winglerline highway bars for the big parts... Performance stuff like the diamond jim exhaust, cone filter, rejet are there but cheap... And on the list of things to add on are my LED tail light, new turn signals (for the bigger bags to fit), sideways plate mount, etc.

I don't remember the prices for everything... But, most of them were cheaper than what I'd pay at the dealers by finding great deals off EBay, selling OEM parts, etc.

I got a 2002 with about 7500 miles for $2250 from the original owner,  private seller. (purchased from forum member Geo)

had:
Dyno jet kit
Supertrapp
Willie and max bags
Windshield
Side license plate mount.
Crankcase breater tube rerouted to outside
maintenance log since since purchased from dealer
+ all original parts (including old spark plugs)

I have done:
raised seat mod - about 1.5" more comfy Roll Eyes

More to come -- have to wait to take 16 hour rider course to get license (FL)- drives me nuts staring at it in the garage and only being able to ride on backroads for fear of police LOL.

wheels - 2250
registration - dont remember
Rider safty class - 225
rescheduling fee - 75

getting license to thump around town - priceless Grin

I paid $1650 for mine.

Of course, that will go up slightly when my custom saddle bags and custom saddle are done in 2 weeks ($500.00 for both.  All leather, hand made... I can't wait!)

So all told , I have, what, $2900.00 in the bike.  Less than I can get a used stock S40 for at the stealership.

Hope you'll be posting pics of those new leather goods.
