Abnormal wear on carb parts? (slider and needle)
03/30/08 at 15:32:47

Finally got a chance to take the carb apart on my wife's bike to look at the random rich condition.

The needle has a ring of wear (pic posted) that might warrant replacement?

The slider was a little bit sticky, but not much.  How touchy are these?  Also, there's significant wear on the slider and the carb body (pic posted), the bore is scored a bunch like junk got in there.  Is that usual?

The carb itself is perfectly clean inside (as the shop had it apart 2 yrs ago so I expected it to be clean).  Gas out of the bowl was clean.

Comments on the needle and scoring would be appreciated.  Thanks

3713 kilobytes and cannot be uploaded.

Getting that error for pics that are smaller than 250kb.  For larger ones I'm getting a reasonable error stating the size > 250kb.  Help?

Best to host your pictures elsewhere and just link to them, or display them here by pasting the URL of the picture/host between the image markers; which are most easily made by clicking little picture icon on the toolbar of the posting window.

And on the carb... "a little sticky" isn't good enough on a CV type carb.

I'll have to find somewhere to post them then, don't have a place.

It's not sticky anymore, so hopefully I found the problem.

Any thoughts on whether the needle needs replaced if I can see a ring where it seats?

definitely replace it and make sure the slideis not sticky at all.  I just had to replace a needle on my V*.  makes a huge difference.

How about the best place to buy a new main jet?  I was going to do the spacer mod while I have it apart, but I cannot get 1 of the screws loose that hold that assembly together unfortunately.  So instead of the $.10 mod I'll put the bigger jet in it while it's apart.

$20 is the best I've found on that so far for pilot and main.

Go find Lancer on the Marketplace board.  He has jet sets (pilot and 3 main sizes) for $15.

$20 is too much for a pair of jets.  most dealerships will stock mimunis for <$5 each.  heck, $5 each is too much...  the same palce that is getting $5 per jet also wants $12 for an oil filter?  WTF?
