I am currently building my own forward controls out of some 1/4 inch diamond plate steel.

There is a thread in the tech/ref section of this site posted by NightRain who built his own forward controls. (in fact that is the method I'm using except for a few alterations of my own.

But so far to build your own seems to be fairly straight forward (no pun intended).

I didn't make them. Ed_L did, but they went on easily and work fine.
Aluminum plate.

love the look of the bike.  well except for the reflector loose it and use the mounting holes for a new  high db chrome horn 13 bucks at shucks. much more effective than the reflector.

The hardest part is making a longer shift rod. I ended up cutting the threaded ends off a stock rod and brazed them into a length of thicker round stock. Gotta remember that one end of the shifter rod has reversed threads on it and you will need to make something so you can still use the backward threads.

I was gonna try to find a die that will cut reverse threads and make a longer shift rod for the FireLizard. Anyone know who might actually carry such a thing?

i never found anywhere that had the reverse thread dies to cut the threads with which was too bad cause it would be nice to have a set out in the shop for custom work. I have a metal lathe but really don't know how to set the old girl up to do that type of work. That's why I ended up drilling and brazing the tips in the ends of a thicker rod. The thicker rod also won't bend as easy as the cheap thin stock rods. If you need a custom shifter rod made let me know, I'll bang one out for you for a lot cheaper than a die.

I hope I have better luck finding a reverse thread die. I find it more appealing to be able to just make me a longer shifter rod myself in twenty minutes or less than having to wait for one to be shipped to me.

Just need some welding done and my home made forward controls will be finished. Unfortunately I don't have a welder and don't know how to use one if I did have one. But fortunately I have a buddy who does have access to a welder and is willing to do the welding for me.

I promise I will get some pics of the forward controls posted as soon as I possibly can.

Actually I need to figure out a longer shift rod and figure something out for the brake as well. I think I got it figured out, I just need a couple of pieces of hardware first, oh, and a die, a regular thread die, don't need the reverse thread die with the method I'm thinking of.
