The idle screw on a VM is nothing more than a bullet nose screw that rides against a ramp on the side/bottom of the slide. it raises and lowers the slide based on how far in it is and where it hits the slide. However, the throttle cable is also attached directly to the slide and if you do not have free play in it, it will hold the slide open. If you need to adjust check the brass adjustment collar on the top of the carb.
So this is the problem I am having. I can only start and run my bike on prime, when I switch to regular setting it eventually cuts out and the motor stops. The idle mixture screw seems to have no effect. When I adjust it to a point where the screw is turning by itself there is no dropping in idle. The motor is running very hot and the new muffler has changed to an amber colour and I have only run it for a few minutes while I tried to adjust the idle. When it cuts out it has a very loud backfire.
I have not looked at my throttle linkage as yet.
Further diagnostic suggestions appreciated.
