NOT
I thought of all my possibilities but came up with nothing. So bare sheetmetal covered with WD-40 to resist Rust is what it will be . But its finished, officially.

Very cool ... good job! A friend of mine did a similar treatment on an old Sportster ... put subtle "swirls" in the bare sheet metal with a rotary wheel of some sort and covered with several coats of clear ... looks awesome (as does your Bike!) 8)
Have any more pics to post?

I like that steel look, but I'd clearcoat that bare metal.

Not really. Wipe it down with denatured alcohol and a clean rag. That will take off all the oil and leave a clean surface to paint.
As for a clear coat? I'd look at a satin finish polyurethane. That will retain the look of the bare metal without adding any unnatural shine.
I think that looks sweet.

Looks c*ck.
As far as paint...just paint no primer allows only mechanical, not chemical, adhesion. I'd recommend clear primer (uberexpensive...1oo bones for a 1/2 pint?) But it would be good to put that under that satin clear max talked about.

I'd powdercoat it clear. They blast them with synthetic sand. So it will retain your bare metal look.
Cool.
