Where to buy aftermarket exhaust
11/06/07 at 13:45:04

I've been looking for the past few days and can not find LS650 specific slip-ons other than the Jardine.  I have been using an HD slip-on and only getting about 35mpgs!!!  It was fine with the stock exhaust so i'm attributing the horrible mileage on the slip-on since nothing else changed.

I have read on here the different types but i'm having a very tough time finding resellers.  I would really appreciate help from some people for links.

Thanks!

Mac performance pipe is direct slip-on. I'did put some cropped HD heatshields on for protection and looks.(muffler tend to blue pretty fast at connection). Sound great, a little loud but great. Had to rejet with 152.5 main and total white spacer removal. Runs Strong. Grin Grin

Ok, that sounds good but where did you get it?  I have search on this site and found a lot of options, but when I went to buy I couldn't find many that were LS650 specific.  My 86' carb has a 155 main jet so I don't think i'm going to have to rejet.  If anything I may go down a size.  The HD muffler i'm using has to be more restrictive than stock since I did nothing to the carb and my mpgs are between 35 and 40 now.

I need some links!

Any muffler that hooks up to a 1.75" pipe will do...

Dennis Kirk has 3 in stock. Also has Jardine and Supertrapp.  http://www.denniskirk.com/  I did put 2 extra groves at connection, opened it up, for ease of slipping it on and used seal out of stock muffler Grin

I tried to go the cheap route with an HD muffler but I want something that is specific to the Savage and will mount perfectly.  My muffler now is rigged now and I don't like it.

What do you mean by "2 extra grooves"?

the Mac, where it connects to the headpipe, has only 2 grooves which are hard to spred apart for an easy slip on. So I just took a hacksaw and at 90 degree cut 2 more grooves. spread them apart a little bit and then used the stock muffler gasket which I carefully pried out of the stock muffler. Then used supplied chrome clamp.

Keep in mind the "Big" stock harley muffler is designed to handle about 29.5 hp in a two muffler configuration based on 59 hp for the evolution v-twin.  This is really no better (maybe worse) than the 31 hp for the Savage, zero sum game from a hp perspective IMHO...

However, from a sound perspective I do prefer the harley muff.

I'm pretty sure that that's the problem i'm running into.  However, I was looking at it from a cc point of view.  My muddler has 1300/1400 so I assumed that meant 1300cc (1400cc) divided by 2.

No worries, I just bought the Mac 1/1 from DennisKirk.com.  Is that definitely unrestricted compared to the stock Savage muffler?  What can I expect as far as sound increase?  I am definitely looking for something nice and loud.
