popped the cover and no pebble. I had tryed to push it out with some oil but i doubt that the oil would push it far. Once the cover was off i decided to drop in another pebble to see where it would go. It didnt make it far. It fell just to the right of the primary drive gear. If it the original pebbble did fall past that point then i doubt that it would go into the center portion of the crank case through one of the two small openings to the that portion of the engine. All this leads me to believe that there is no pebble, but just to be sure i felt all around under the oil pump to see if i could feel anything with some small wire and i did not feel a thing. It was very dark when i was filling it with oil last night and the pebble might have bounced off the engine off the frame and then on to the ground. Gunna get her back together and fire it up to see what happens. man this is an ordeal, a good lesson to take ones time no matter how small the task may seem.

I know it is no real comfort right now, but I can promise, I have completely shafted myself in really frustrating ways many times. You have my sympathy here. Keep swinging!

I have a sililiar problem with a Honda XR2230F that the cam bolt heads broke off, I found one, but have not found the other yet and have looked and looked. Can't decide whether to run and hope or R&R the egnine and disassemble it. Owner (B-i-L) doesn't care much either way. Ned to get it done so that rack is clear for winter projects. I've ordered a cam and chain from Lancer and have a head, cylinder and piston lying in wait. Darned head lug is leaking again ! But will make it until the snow flys, Max

well got it back together and ran her around the block at full throtle. NO wierd noises and no explosions so i guess all is good or ill find out on the road this weekend. It was probably a very small brittle pebble so maybe it will get turned into sand then the filter should pick it up, if not then all hell is gunna brake loose at the exact wrong moment.

put 400 miles on her this past weekend, and short of losing my exhaust baffle half way, i had no problems.
she ran loud and hard, lots of vibes as is expected. did mostly 60-70 the whole way and was getting 48-50 mpg.

Long story cut short:

Back in '77 I was on a road trip on my Yamaha XS750D.  Don't ask me how, but I managed to knock a tiny nut into the oil fill hole.  I was at a truck stop.  A diesel mechanic there suggested I use a water hose they had there, with hot water.  He said I should spray the hot water into the oil fill hole in an attempt to flush the nut through.

Well, I was young then, so I drained the engine oil and did it.  It didn't work.  I ended up taking the case cover off to find the nut.

BTW, I replaced the engine oil I had drained, ran 'er a few hundred miles, then changed the oil again.

Never did have any ill effects from running the hot water through the engine.

The number one lesson here is, dont be laying an oil funnel on the ground. lay it on a board, or a towell, heck, stick it in your shirt pocket, but the ground?? My funnels are wiped clean & wrapped up, plugged both ends, hanging up & are kept clean. I would never lay one on the ground on purpose.

After cleaning my oil fill funnel(s) I place them in zip-lock baggies before putting them back in their storage location. Then it only comes out when it's oil fill time  Smiley
