You might check to see if the mirrors are weighted to reduce vibration. Not that that would be a stopper.

I really should save up for fork braces. My mirrors are so rusty though, and the glass from the mirror has so many brown spots on the inside, that pretty soon I won't be able to use them anymore. So maybe plastic might actually be good with all this salt air!
