And Paladin, though I've only replied and am not responsible for the actual hijacking of your most excellent thread, I apologize for my participation.  I won't respond further to anything in this thread not related to the actual topic.

Once a thread has served it's purpose, wandering about on side roads is normal, expected, pretty near unavoidable.

I was having a wobble problem at 65+ the last day of the trip.  Yesterday I was wobbling at 55+.  Checked my tire pressure -- front was 25psi, down from the proper 29.  Proper tire inflation pressure is extremely important on a motorcycle.

Great story thread Palladin - thank you for your detail in telling of the trip.
You might want to investigate an Air Hawk Seat pad  - they are about 150 bucks but solved my sore butt issue on my Savage on longer rides.
What does the super brace accomplish?

I have done a couple fo 2,000 mile tours on my Savage and totally agree with the ideas you are expressing about simplicity and ease of riding which both make the Savage a winnter on a trip like yours

Keep it in the wind!

Thanks for takin' the boardies cruisin' with ya!

(Do you have to go back with a trailer to pick up that Quarter Horse for Mrs. Paladin?)  Grin

Had the horses with me -- Mrs.P noticed the bag from the Quarter Horse Museum.  http://www.dslretorts.com/Paladin/archives/002431.html

As noted in the 7" headlight thread, I'm a cheapskate.  A $150 pad is not in the works.  I've heard good things about a simple piece of sheepskin. Quote:

Tightens up the front suspension.
