I don't think they put the JADARM on a motorcycle...on a car..yes. Smiley

My thumper has plenty of acceleration for this ole man.

Yeah.  Did it twice if I remember.  Can't remember the myths, but one time was out on a dry lake and another to shoot it off a ramp.  The first one went well while the second time blew the car totally up (bad rocket).

Greetings from Atlantic Canada --- Moncton, NB.  Just venturing into motorcycling for the first time at 52 and very encouraged by all the positive comments and feedback, particularly for those of us getting into this at a later stage in our lives.  My wife had her license as a teenager and has renewed it annually but not ridden.  Yesterday, she bought a new Buell Blast and I have ordered a new Boulevard S40 (silver) and waiting for it to come in this week.  We still have 12 foot snowbanks so it will be a while before I learn to ride.  I've signed up for a May Motorcycle Safety course and am advised that's the best way to start.  I was really confused by the array of choices when we went shopping.  In my case, I found the Boulevard S40 to be an ideal fit for my 5'7", 175 lb size --- seems light, manageable and a good starter bike.  For that fact, the 650 cc is probably all I'll ever need, as we are both looking for weekend country road trips and tours within Atlantic Canada.

I'm learning a lot from this forum and glad I signed on!  No doubt I will be a confirmed cycle addict within months!

Cheers!

Welcome.  After your riding course, you will have to take two weeks vacation to make the most of the riding season up there (or down there nautically speaking). That will leave you a day to clean it up and prepare it for the next Winter.. Wink  Welcome back to riding, it's great that both you and your wife will be out there together.

New to the board from Central PA. I'm looking at picking up a Savage LS 650 here, hopefully, in the next week or so.

I've been a car nut for a number of years now. I'm currently driving a Jeep Wrangler (95 YJ) with a few minor modifications done to it... And a 1990 Ford Festiva. My Festiva choice is a little awkward, but I've grown to love them. My dad has had a Festiva since I was 3 or 4... After he was in an accident with his original, he bought another. And when I turned 17, he found one in town that was being sold because a truck had backed into the side of it and the owners didn't want to fix it. My first Festiva was a 1992, in green, with 32,000 miles on it (that was in 2002).

Over the course of 5 years, I dumped over $20,000 into customization of 3 Festivas... I had an accident each winter (2003 and 2004) and then had to start over and rebuild on a new body. The car featured a full bodykit, shaved doors and hatch, european headlights and tail lights, air suspension (which were lated swapped out for a set of Tein coilovers), engine swap, brake swap, ragtop, etc, etc, etc...

My current Festiva has an Escort GT engine swapped under the hood, a bodykit and fiberglass hood. It's stripped inside of everything but the seats and the dash. ran a 15.71 at the track when I didn't know how to drive it (I'm going to add a 100 shot of NX at some point) and it did pretty well in autocross the last events of 2007. My plan for this year is to get better at autocrossing and to get my 15.71 into the 14's.

Love photography (Shooting with a Nikon D200), enjoy nature and the outdoors, hunting (and guns in general), hanging with the family and spending time with my girlfriend of 4 and a half years.

Yeah... that's about it. Smiley

I hope your winter/crash run is over. You sound like a nice, stable young man. I hope we dont steer you down the wrong path. ( Not MEEE of course, but , just between me & you, there's some shady characters here.)

Hello to all, been lurking for about a year.  Have had one bike or another for the last 40 years and right now I'm on a 81 WG.
I don't own a savage but it is one that I'm interested in for my grandson who will be starting  High school in a couple years and is going to need a decent ride.  Time is running out and we are going to have to start our build one of these days but you know decisions,  decisions

Welcome, Ken.  As you can see if you've done some research, the Savage is a very modifiable bike at a low cost and low maintenance.  Feel free to post pics of your Wide Glide and discuss your ideas for your build.  FYI.  Harley makes great "after market" parts for the Savage.   Wink  The Savage LOVES HD discard parts.

Justin - Thanks... I hope that my winter streak is over as well! The Jeep is the only vehicle that sees the crappy weather. The Festiva doesn't even have a heater core, so it doesn't get out in the cold weather because of potentially freezing me inside of it... Smiley

The perfect addition to "me" would be a nice bike. We'll see what happens today.

Ok so my name is Baby Hog (actually its Jess but I like Baby Hog better)... I am 21 and live in the Knoxville, TN area...

I have been riding since I was 13. It has become the absolute love of my life other than my husband. I ride a 2001 Savage, she is torn apart right now I am painting it black with some custom hand painted something... havent decided what yet I see when I get there!

I have been riding my savage for two years now it was a hand me down from my mom, prob the best handy me down on earth! When I got her she had been wrecked several times and had never been fixed. I have slowly gotten her back into shape. She currently has Harley Davidson handle bars, the bullet style front blinkers on the bars, chrome flame grips, a Harley Davidson tear drop tail light, chrome bullet rear blinkers, the sissy bar and side mounting brackets have been removed, and prob a few other things I cant remember at the moment... LOL  She currently has what I think might be a bad seal in the engine, but I am not sure... I will soon be starting a post to get some opinions, but I am still new at this stuff and still trying to find my way around the site...

I do all the work on my bike myself! NO ONE TOUCHES HER BUT ME...

My husband doesnt know how to drive one and is a little scarred to learn, I have gotten him to ride on the back on a few occasions, but when my mom and stepdad start making fun of him he tends to stay home! ( And yes I kinda do wear the pants in my house, but I dont let it go to my head too much  LOL )

Any way back on subject I love my Savage and wouldn't trade her for the world! And I am here to talk about her and learn all I can! Grin

Gary,   thanks for the welcome. Yes we have been doing research why else lurk?  Well aware of HD parts, ran FL fenders on my old wing back in the late 70's. Right now if we go with the savage we are looking at , slam it down, 16& 21 for wheels, FL front fender for real, 3-4 in. stretch in frame and 1 3/4 drag with HP baffle and Black to name a few   Course things always change when bikes are on the lift       As far as the old WG

Hi

As the name sugests i live in the UK in an area called East Anglia, the coast is only 50 miles away so we have some good runs out when the sun does manage to drag itself out of bed over here.

My Savage is an 87 so it has been about a bit, with no mods as yet! I am planning an engine rebuild in the near future the only fly in the ointment is that Suzuki Uk have just informed me that they concider the savage as obsolete and that spares for this fine bike has now been discontinued. No worries though must be able to source parts from somewhere. I have to say this is a good  site keep it up.  Smiley

Hello Everyone...new to this site and the Thumper. I have been moving toward the simpler things in life and this is one of them, the S40! I took up riding again in '86 with a 750 Virago and a year after went to the BMW K100rt, excellent machine...after 40,000 miles I tried out a Harley Electra Glide for 6,000 miles. I was like going from a covette to a '48 pick up truck....not bad if you like stock '48 pick ups! After that it was a '95 Moto Guzzi, an '84 BMW airhead, Kawasaki Voyager....and now the '06 S40 with 380 miles on it for $2,700.00! I could not pass it up! It simplifies a lot...not to mention the dollars that fly out of the wallet when you need parts and maintenace. This bike is like working on my lawnmower...not an insult but truly a compliment.

The only thing I NEED to do is get some seat height and push back 'cause I've got long legs...thinking about a springer solo seat for the height and I can get it positioned to the rear some. I hope to find some info. on this site as to how and where to get the parts...also need to lower the brake pedal...my legs are bent too much up...oh well, what I have seen so far on this site is really encouraging...not only riding as a "hobby" but also wrenching and modifying....looking forward to it, thanks for being there you guys...and gals.

Oh by the way, I am from New Orleans but now live across Lake Pontchatrain from the city with a lot of good back roads to ride on...maybe we will cross paths one day...bye, Paul  Smiley

Hello from Austin!

I just bought my first motorcycle, a 2001 Savage with just over 9000 miles.  My wife gave me the Rider's Edge course about 4 years ago and I never got around to taking the DMV test,  so I'm taking a refresher basic rider's course next week.  My coworkers think I'm in an early mid-life crisis, but it's not a lifestyle thing - I want an economical and reliable commute vehicle that's also fun.

I came close to buying a few other bikes from private sellers and was happy to find a Savage at a local dealership.  It's cosmetically rough but seems mechanically sound.  Appears all stock except for a windshield.

My only hesitation is fit - I'm 6'3" but mostly torso.  While I do fit, I would be much more comfortable with forward controls, but I can't justify spending $500 on an $1800 bike, at least not so soon after purchase.

I'm glad to see such an active community!  I'll be mostly lurking for a while, but I'll try to contribute something of value every now and then.
