How "slip on" is the jardine muffler

Just got my jardine and hope to install on sunday time permitting. The clymer manual suggests removing the entire exhaust to work on the exhaust system. My question is can I leave the header attached and just "slip on" the jardine or should I pull the exhaust out of the bike as suggested by the clymer manual. I have got the gasket (it was only 4 bucks) that goes between the cylinder head and the header as clymer says use a new one each time the exhaust is pulled.

does indeed just slip on - you can leave the head pipe as is most likely unless it has swung in toward the frame a bit - then you need to loosen the header bolts - do you have a new pipe to muffler gasket? - might be good to put a little high temp (like the copper) sealant there- as it will sure backfire, hard, if it's sucking air.

By the way let us know if the guts of yours starts to rattle, several folks here have had them do that - so the new ones might not be holding up as well as the old ones - if that is the case we need to post that here

hope you are going to do the carb work along with the Jardine.

I rejetted to 155 and spacer is at 1/3 to get ready for the jardine. I'm going to put in the K@N at the same time as the new pipe.

The gasket between header and pipe sounds like a good idea. I'll swing by the dealer to get one. If anyone has a TM I would not mind at all knowing the part number and would appreciate someone posting same here.

Where does one get the high temp sealer? At an auto parts store?

Great website I have been reading for the last year just now getting around to posting.

Although copper sealant and red sealants are good up to 500(°F) and 650(°F) and could do the job of sealing the header pipe to the muffler canister just fine, I think the products actually made for the muffler and tailpipe (frequently by the same companies) are better because they are “Temperature Resistance Typical Values Continuous" of 2000(°F) ( 1093 °C)

Permatex® Muffler & Tailpipe Sealer

Or a thicker putty
Permatex® Muffler & Tailpipe Putty

And a different brand, but I imagine it's heat resistent qualities are the same, they don't have a technical data listing that I know of: Bondo Tailpiple and Muffler Sealer

And, surprisingly enough, they are actually cheaper then the silicone sealants and liquid gaskets. Somewhere between $1.99 and $2.99 at hardware stores.

Easy slip on and mount. Be sure you have a good seal between header and Jardine. Drop in a K&N filter. Shave white spacer down by half. Move main jet up to 150, maybe 152.5 pending sea level location, use irad plugs and she will smoke 883 sportys off the line. Richie
