My Air Filter box is filling up with fuel
07/21/07 at 03:09:13
I have a 98 savage and it has 2000 miles on it. I am having a problem with fuel filling up my air filter box. Any info would be great. Also, I have not adjusted the valves scece I bought it. Would that have anything to do woth it?
Thanks

you either have a bad petc0ck (petcock) or a bad needle valve, possibly a stuck float.
a rap with a screwdriver on the carb will free a stuck float.
pull the vacuum line on the right side of the carb and check the line for fuel.
a bad needle valve needs replacing.

On another of my bikes, I had the same problem. It turned out to be a blocked fuel vapor vent.
Instead of allowing the gas vapors out, the blocked vent kept them inside the gas tank. Eventually, the pressure inside the tank got so high that it pushed raw gas into the carb and through the air box.
That may not be your problem, but it wouldn't hurt to check the vent tubes.

The gas cap on the LS650's tank is vented.

And California models have a vent line going to a canister that's 'vented' to the carb.
Would the gas cap still be vented?

My bike had the sealed gas cap with the cannister gizmo.
It never worked right and caused more problems than anything else.

Nope, forgot about the granola models.
