Auto Decompression

I don't think my decompression is rigged/adjusted correctly. As it currently is you have to let the clutch out (from full engagement) about 1/2" and find the "sweet" spot that will allow the decompression solenoid and starter to engage. I would prefer that this would happen at full clutch engagement or clutch lever pull. What do I need to be looking at to adjust this or is that normal?

Sounds like the switch at the clutch to me - you could just bypass it I guess until your ready to open the side cover - odd sounding problem

I take it from you response that there's no adjustment?

There isn't an adjustment for the clutch safety switch.

The fact that you have a sweet spot to get the starter to go says somethings wrong.  check the switch, maybe its loose.  Or you got a bad switch.  You can short accross the terminals to deactivate it.   Grin

My starter button became intermittant, had to take the thing apart and clean out the black road gunk and spider webs, used laquer thinner and q-tips, watch out for small parts and springs inside that handle. works great now, starts first touch. Did all the rest of the switches too.

It looks like it was the clutch switch located behind the clutch lever. I wiggled the switch post and it started working at full clutch pull...seems like the plunger is intermittant. I had to order some misc. stuff from Ron Ayers anyway so I ordered a new switch...it was less than $6.00. Reelthing hit the nail on the head!
