Who has a flywheel puller?
07/01/07 at 13:13:48

Does anyone have a flywheel pulling tool? I would really like to find one that I can borrow. I will pay for shipping both ways and a moderate fee if I could use somebody's. I'll only need it for a day! PM me or reply on this post if you have one, I'll check it twice daily.

If you're near an Autozone, check with them. They loan lots of tools.

Hey Rob,

Been following your other puller thread... I'm familiar with the type of puller you need, and as I said, I've made a lot of my own. A DIY substitute for that one is possible, but not easy nor inexpensive, making it an unlikely prospect...

The only thing I've found that might be of some help to you, is the fact that the Savage isn't the only Suzuki that uses that same rotor puller. Check with the guys at http://www.vx800.net and other Suzuki rider forums to see if they know if special tool # 09930-30720 also works on their bike.

As someone suggested, renting one from a nearby shop is an option, but likely only a Suzuki shop or really well equipped independent will have it. I'd offer to leave a $80 deposit (enough to cover a new one) and then tell them they can keep $20 when you return it. The puller might not even belong to the shop, it might be the personal property of one of the mechanics.

OK I have one I made recently. Yea deposit and some
$$ sounds good. Rotor puller right, not fly wheel puller.
You wanna do it hit me up. BTW this thing pulled the gorilla of rotors.
Cool.

magneto rotor = flywheel

How about some pictures of your puller? I'd be real interested in how you made it, and how it works.

I got a steering neck preload collar with the same thread. 50mm dia 1.5 pitch I think, then welded it to a thick wall square tubing. Then I welded a nut onto a plate and put it inside  and welded it at the other end of the square tubing. Then weld a handle and use a bolt and try it. It worked on 1 bike and the end plate tore on the gorilla bike. I then cut off the end plate and welded a off the shelf puller to it and used the thing's original bolt. It had to be hardened steel in reality.
Cool.

I wondered what size those big old threads on the crank were... So if someone could find a machine shop with a 50mm-1.5 pitch tap... they could make a puller pretty easy.

As you said, if you don't use hardened nuts and bolts on a puller, you'll be lucky to use the thing a few times before it gives way. Grade 8 nuts and bolts help, but even they won't last long.
