I posted this info in a few other threads, but I want to make sure that anyone who is interested in a trailer hitch for their Savage gets a chance to see this.

said the factory would be interested in building a trailer hitch for the Savage if there was more demand (note that John is in FL and the factory is in Quebec, Canada).

Well, he's already got at least one hard order on the books (mine).

For all of you maniacs out there who are considering pulling a trailer with your Savage, this may be the way to get 'er done.  Give John a call and tell him you are willing to order a hitch if one were available.

FWIW, I've given up on driving cars and trucks.  I plan to use the trailer for odd shopping trips (when I need a 4X8 or something large).

Let's flood John with some orders!  Who's in?

I'm up here in nowhere western North Dakota for another week or so. I found an 83 year young guy who's been welding for over forty years, for the oil pipelines and in his own home shop. I just took the bike over to his place today and we sat down and came up with some ideas for an easily removable hitch for the old Suzi-Q. I should have some pix by the end of the week.

The basic concept is to have the front end of the mounting clamp to the inside side of the shock mount. Then use the lower front acorn nut bolt (replaced by a longer one of course) and put in a bolt just to the front of the sissy bar mount through the side rail. The back of the hitch frame(?) will then drop down at the back of the fender in front of the license plate mount with a plate to mount the ball behind the tire, around 14" or so up from the road 'cause that's the tongue height for my trailer when it's level. All this is from 1/4" sheet steel so I'm not worried about anything coming loose or falling apart.

Four bolts/nuts and two clamping things of some sort and off it comes. Put the chrome acorns back on and it's almost stock to look at.

This guy does amazing work. I had him repair a bracket that broke on me. Even after he re-enforced so's it won't happen again (his idea) it looks as good as it did new.

If you want it and can come up with an idea, find yourself a good guy and work with him. Farm country's the best if you want reasonable prices and pride of workmanship. Seems to be a dying concept here anymore. Support the folks who take responsibility for their work and what they do.
