Re-jetting carb

What could/will happen to an S40 over time if an HD sportster muffler is installed and the carb is NOT re-jetted?  Does that HAVE to be done?

it somewhat depends on where you live and how you ride. guaranteed your engine will run leaner than it was, that will prompt it to run hotter. out here, where it is over 100*f  deg. EVERY single day for the next 100+ days, that will prompt the bluing of the chrome exhaust pipe(at least), cooking of the rings and the ventilating of a piston (at worst), not to mention other heat related concerns. your results may vary.
