If you are using an O-ring / X-ring chain the grease inside the links won't be slinging off at all. Lubricate it with products like Chain wax which sticks really well to the chain and you won't have a problem at all. My friend has over 20,000 miles on his Triumph and has never changed the chain or sprocket's. I have 8,000 on mine and it still looks brand new. You will need to clean it with kerosene every time you spray it down.

The Motorcycle Superstore is located in Oregon, so when I finally scraped the pennies together, it only took 1 day for my sprockets and chain to get here. Free shipping too.

The 45 and the 17 both fit perfectly. Need a washer under the nuts on the rear sprocket bolts to tighten properly, but all is good. Gotta get some more Loctite too

I think that I'm gonna like this chain conversion. More notes and photos as I start getting it together.
