Looking for that Cam, soon,,

Well, if I remember right, the cam was sposed to have left the shop yesterday. The cam chain is soaking in oil & has been all day. I( couldnt find any liquid nitrogen, so the cryogenic experiment will just have to wait till the next chain. Maybe I can find some next time. Well, to be honest, it wasnt that I couldnt find any, I didnt  get around to even trying. Bummer.

How quick does she want to get to where-ever she is going?
Or perhaps ... how fast do YOU want her going?

Ummmm....

The cam is designed for low-midrange power.  There is a significant performance increase that will be felt where you sit.

Of course, if throwing in a cam then the carb should be rejetted at least ... or maybe swapped out for a perf carb ... and the stock muffler drop in favor of one that will flow MORE air.

Engine/power wise, a carb/cam/muffler change can make the Savage act more like a savage.

Before I started my rebuild in November mine did 0-60 in 4.9 sec. & 14.2 sec @ 89 mph in the 1/4.  The perf readings were 45 hp & 42 lb/ft tq, and that was at the rear wheel.

So......... is she a hot rodder?  Are you?

You may need a phone booth to change in when you ride it.

IT IS FUN.

An idle (hah!) question--

what new carb would work best with this cam?

W e l l l l l ..............   not that I favor any particular brand or model, but I have been known to sell carb kits from time to time, and they usually have a Mikuni VM roundslide 36mm carb in the kit, and also included are a new rubber mounting flange with new stainless hex head bolts, custom throttlecable by Barnett, main & pilot jets, carb tool, tuning manual, & Iridium spark plug.  There are also options available for those who are addicted to performance tuning.

I just put the kit back on ebay  today with a spring sale for just $295.

I will put a version in the parts section here tomorrow.

LOL...my wife is not a hot rodder, and if I feel the need, my Honda runs mid 11's, and the BMW is a very close second to that.

I was just wondering the advantages of the cam upgrade, but I think I'll pass. The bike has plenty of power for what it was intended for, but the valvetrain reliability issues being addressed is what is most important to me.

For just good all around running I would suggest a stock sporty/dyna muffler and a proper rejet/tune of the stock carb.  It will sound good without being obnoxious, run better than stock and not backfire.

Hey Lancer, you mention that this new cam is setup for low-midrange...what's the profile (lift/duration) compared with the stock cam?

Check the parts section, I am posting the links to the carb kit and cam so it's available for everyone to check if they want.
