Spare parts appeal to me. Being shut down & paying 3 prices for something at the dealership irritates me. BUT, hanging a part on the wall in the garage & waiting till I need it may be silly, IF I never need it. Are clutch cables or throttle cables liable to need replaced in 5 years? 10?  What about front brake disks? How long till I wear one to the point replacement is the smart thing to do? ( I ride hard, brake hard)  I can have these parts & a cam chain with 15000 miles on it for a really reasonable sounding 40 $$ & that pays the freight. I am a goon if I don't buyt it?The cam chain will be for the engine I am getting from Florida, with around 27,000? miles, can't remember, But I wanted a spare engine so I am not shut down if the top end needs some serious work.Seemed reasonable with about $200.00 for an angine that just needs a cam chain. Man, if someone runs over this bike after I get all these p[arts for it I am gonna scream! LOL Am I spendin a sack O $$$ for no reason? remember, I do drag pegs & ride it 70+ about every time I get on it. I know they are tuff little bikes, I just don't know HOW tuff.. & I don't want to be walking. I guess the question is, if you could have parts that would keep you on the road stashed for about $300.00 would ya do it?

Working in the aviation maintenance for 40 years I like spareparts, the more the better.
When I bought my Savage I got thrown in for free another Savage without engine and some other bits and pieces missing. Sold some kept some.
This is what is on my spareparts shelf: the electronic bits, front end complete, wheels ,87 carburator, handlebar switches and bolts & nuts. From a wrecked engine I keep the gearbox. bolts and nuts and bits and pieces.
You may wonder why I answer so quick on question about seizes and so on.

From e-bay and other market places I aquired some  parts: frontbrake (NOS 9.99$), petc0ck , spare engine and a rotorpuller which I have "leased-out" a few times.
The engine ( 12700KM ) will be fitted shortly with the modified camchain tensioner.
The "old" engine was consuming too much oil and will have a rebored cylinder and new oveseized piston and kept as a spare.

Do I NEED them, NO, but I feel comfortable having spares.

Spare parts are awesome.

I have all the original pieces of the Savage, in their original color (except the side panels).  Everything else has been parts I bought specifically to tinker with...so my stock become smy backup, I guess.  I've gone through Savage fenders, handlebars, seats, etc. etc.  I always feel more comfortable knowing that when I screw up this time, it won't mean I can't ride it.
