? was do the drive pulleys wear out?
I have the same belt and pulleys on my 86 that came with it is up to 3 times around the clock it has been around Australia 2 times I have taken it to the US and I have it with me here in Argentina so for 20 years it has been great and the bike is my only form of transports So if you treat it well it will last forever touch wood.
Adam
If this is all true, then the Savge just lasts and lasts!! Max

A pulley might wear out after 10 or 15 belts...of course I've seen pulleys on cars last 500,000+ miles and over 1,000,000 miles on Semi's. It's usually not wear that causes them to be replaced, but corrosion. I think the Savage pulleys are aluminum alloy.

The only concern I have is about the splines, where the front pulley is attached to the transmission countershaft.
I have a feeling that there is the weakest point.

That may be the weakest point, but there is no wear there whatsoever, only stress. I wouldn't worry too much about that...

If it's tight - had to replace the pulley on the '95 because the nut only had maybe 5-10ftlbs on it and let it knock around wearing the teeth out - lucky thing was the output shaft is harder steel than the pulley.

Yeah. Now, I remember. You're the one that stripped the pulley. First time I'd heard of it
I'm not discussing that biker forum, though. They're a bunch of woosies
BTW-how do you spell woosie? Spell checker doesn't know either.

It seems to me that reelthing has a lot of "firsts" I've never heard of before
Yeah, the whole "no wear" thing only applies to parts that don't move relative to each other. When the pulley and output shaft are moving at different rates and in different directions bad things happen.
Note to self: check nut tension on the pulley...
