Hose under airbox..

Goes nowhere, blanked off by a plug with a light wire clamp. Mine was exactly full to the top with oil. Why is the hose there? Is it to catch the oil from the hose that goes to the top O the engine? I have 13,500 miles on the bike,so you folks can say if thats too much oil.

That's excactly why the hose is there! To catch the oil that escapes the top of the engine: the breather hose.

How much oil there should be I don't know.

The previous owner of mine had removed the plug so that it simply drained.  While I never noticed any drips, it was pointed out that leaving the tube open could allow more road-level junk to be sucked into the air intake.   I plugged it with a bolt and hose-clamp.

Mine has a duck beak* type plug on the end so it can be drained and checked when you do the oil change. *normally closed - squeeze to open and drain. I'd be concerned if the tube was full and I didn't have a reason why. I'm sure overfilling could lead to more crankcase blowby and it would end up there. Max

Thanks to all for their input. I did overfill it once. Drained it back down very quickly.
