Plug wire.

We post about replacing the plug in our thumpers. But what about the plug wire?? IMHO the weak link in the spark chain!! Any insight on how often or should it be done in conjunction with the pulg change?? Just wondering out loud.

If I remember right it is a non-servicable lead. The cap is replaceable, but the wire is not. Pretty sure it is epoxied into the coil. Yet another way for the metrics to stick it to purchasers. They've been taking WAY too many lessons from Hardley Worth-a-s*** lately...

Are there any aftermarket coils that will work with our bikes?
And yes, the wire is definitly one piece with the "left" half of the coil.

I'm not sure about aftermarket. I think a new one costs about $70, at least that's what I remember when I asked about it at the parts department. I was going to replace mine when I replaced the spark plug but I decided to wait until mine didn't work anymore.

The number of cylinders isn't important...it's how you use them.

Get a Nology "Dual Fire" single tower, it is much hotter than stock. I removed the plug wire from my 87 stock coil by pulling on it until it came out. I then installed a new better wire and sealed it in place with a heat resistant sealer, works great! When I can afford it, I'll get the Nology.
