I'm changing my spark plug for the first time, and have a question.

I took the old plug out, and it was black.  It was dry, not oily.  I guess that means I was running it too rich.  I cleaned it, and now it's kind of dark tan.  I suppose I could probably keep using it, but I figured since I had it out I might as well replace it.

I went to AutoZone, and the only one they had that cross-referenced to the NGK was the Champion pictured below.  When I saw that the old one was threaded at the top, I thought maybe part of the old one was stuck in the spark plug wire.  In an effort to get the "top part" out, I ended up removing the pieces shown below, but I don't remember what order they came out in.

Two questions:

1.  I assume I am supposed to remove the silver top cap on the new spark plug, so it's just the threaded post.  Correct?

2.  In what order do I reinstall the spring, tiny little brass disc, and little white cylinder into the spark plug wire?

Well, I don't really know what the heck would these things (spring, white stick, etc.) be, but I guess they are for creating some electric resistance in order to prevent your bike from making radio frequency noise. This solution was used in the MZ bikes, but these stuff were built in the spark plug cap. Anyway, I wouldn't mind using these stuff because NGK DPR plugs have integrated resistor (the R stands for it). If this Champion plug doesn't have a built in resistor, buy a new plug cap that has one with 10k ohms. Costs only a few bucks.

Hmmm... looks like you took apart the cap b/c it was stuck.   I'm not sure of the order, and I know there's not a microfiche for those parts... BUT, the parts you need are cheap.  Take a look at bikebandit dot com or ronayers dot com for replacement parts.  If there is a good dealership near you, they can probably get you one cheaper than the websites.

The part you need is number 11 on at the following link., but maybe 12 and 13, hopefully not 9 ($70).

Electrical

Now I'm going to guess.

From the spark plug up:  Big brass guy, the spring, white guy, little brass guy, big brass guy such that the slot across the face points towards the spark plug.  Again, just  a guess.
