Update YaBB to get rid of SPAM***

We really need to update this site. We are using YaBB 1, as you can see from the bottom. YaBB 2.1 is now available with lots of neat updates (Guest ban, etc.) I have been trying to get ahold of the Almighty Johnh to no avail. The domain is coming up for renewal in July as well. Anyone have a better point of contact then me? I think I can really help with keeping the site up, its how I bring home the bacon.

Looks like the diss was from an insignificant guest anyways. Wink

YaBB is cool, there are just so many different BB types that are newer and more efficient that it's hard to choose. This is the first time I've used YaBB and it's ok. For instance, XOOPS, I love their system. It's very secure as well. I have a friend that uses it and doesn't have many problems.

The spam has been getting worse recently though. Maybe the update would help.

Would be nice to migrate to a news forum, but if we can just upgrade this one, keep it simple, I think it could work.

what, no balls to identify yourself.
first. i have never deleted any post expressing ones opinion. if you believe your have had a post deleted please speak up now.
second, where do you think the spam is going, does it just magically go away, not. i spend quite a bit of time deleting it.
third, the program is being worked on, consider this, there are three of us working on this problem, yet at least several thousand are working against us.

forth, drinking kills and maims more people than any other intoxicant, but it's legal so it' ok.. bull crap.

we have been working on guest posting but then that would not allow you your triade.

the best thing members can do is just ignone the spam, rob and i kill it daily, if you post a reply to the spam then that info goes back to the spammer to sell. vicious circle.

i won't even address your hatred of pot smokers, only to say sorry if something bad has happened in your life because of it..

Moderators have very little additional access/authority. In general, we have access to the modify and remove functions of all posts instead of just our own and we have the ability to upload image files to a directory on the server to reference in the Tech Ref forum. That's pretty much the extent. Anything else is relegated to the Admin. As an FYI, I don't smoke anything since quitting cigarettes several years back.

Rob, while I know it is human nature to defend oneself, this kind of thing really shouldn't get under your skin. This guy is just here to show what an @ss he can be. If you have any doubt of how the "real" members of this board feel about the job you and the others are doing just go back through the posts and count the times you see "thank you".

Oh yea, and while "xyzxyz" was busy showing off the big words he found in the dictionary, he forgot how to spell "can't".
