A tube of silicone gasket making stuff Can turn to a hard lump.
The Threebond type gasket goo stays semiliquid. A.F.A.I.K. all major bike manufacturers recommend and sell a semiliquid. I had a tube of Threebond for years. Used every bit of it. Never got hard.

This has probably been answered elsewhere on this site, but according to a Permatex OEM Chart I found, Permatex Ultra Grey can be used in place of Threebond/Suzukibond 1207B and 1216.

"can be used" is not necessarily an equal.  While the Ultra Grey can be used when you need an immediate repair and can't get Suzukibond......I use the Suzukibond when I am doing a head cover.

I have 3 tubes of various Permatex RTV in my toolbox....they are various types.  After you open the tube and put the cap back on.....the remaining RTV begins to harden in the tube from the cap end.  If you don't open the tube and squeeze some out on a regular basis...the RTV at the cap end hardens.  When I need more RTV I have to stick a screwdriver through the tube in an area where the RTV is still soft in order to get any out of the tube.  Also the Permatex and similar brands set up really quickly.

The Suzukibond tube I have is about 10 years old, and I used it about 6 months ago when doing a head cover replacement - and it was still completely usable - however I did order a new tube as the RTV was getting a bit sluggish to apply.  The Suzukibond is a little stiffer than the Permatex when it comes out of the tube....and it sets up slower and allows you more time to get it spread out on the gasket surface.

For working on the head cover on the Suzuki - I much prefer the official Suzukibond......and the tube lasts for years longer than the tubes of Permatex or similar RTV products you buy from the big box, hardware or auto parts stores.

Thanks, Dave. These are definite advantages. I think I will try to get some of the Suzukibond.

I have rebuilt engines using the ThreeBond and I have never had a problem. I believe it is the equal of the sealants labeled by Suzuki, Honda and Yamaha.
