I don't know of anywhere in L.A. that is not pay before you pump. Gasoline has been climbing steadily the last month or so -- $2.899/gal for regular. $8.49 for a tankfull.

Not topping off just means you switch to reserve earlier. Not switching back to main means you get to push to the gas station instead of riding on reserve.

It's something that happens -- sort of like the burning end of a cigarette falling off into your lap while driving.

I can only imagine how fast alternative fuel programs would move if (when??!!) gas goes to over 6 bucks in the US. It would put those oil company lobbiest folks in their place, that's for sure.

Ran out once. It was spitting and popping and I forgot had switched to reserve before my last stop. I was headed home and managed to exceed the speed limit enough that when it died, I yanked in the clutch and rolled 1/2 mile into the gas station. I had exhausted all the momentum, fortunately the last 300 feet was downhill. Roll Eyes

Now always find gas after the switch to reserve since that.
