Has anyone done a fuel gauge mod? If so how and what did you use?

I guess I'm lazy, because I like knowing how much is in my tank at a glance.

Maybe one built into the gas cap would work for you if you can find one that fits.

The wife has a fuel guage on her Vulcan, it's not accurate. The guage is just another yada yada bells and whistles feature that's not really necessary.

I fill up every 100 or so miles, she at 150 or so; Not a problem. If you don't watch the mileage just flip to reserve when she starts sputtering and head for gas.

Lambrettas from the 1950s (2stroke scooters from Italy) had a fuel cap with a built-in fuel gauge, it was very basic yet very dependable; little more that a very long fuel cap with an integral float that would push a needle. The nice thing was you could see at a glance how much fuel you had Wink; the bad thing was it never had the locking cap option, and with the first fuel crisis of 1972 punks would syphon all your gas at night.  Angry
AND... it was fitted under the seat   ???

Anyway, I'm sure that somebody will think up the modern equivalent to the Lambretta's system

I keep a very small handlebar bag and in it a small notebook i fill up every 100 miles and write down the mileage. very easy and also affords me a place for small storage, gloves, wallet, keys, change, etc. it's a no brainer

When I first learned to ride,( at least a hundred years ago) you stradled the bike and shook it to see how much gas it had. Even though I use a lipstick pencil to write my mileage down on the speedometer glass, I still shake the tank. The first time Hubby saw me do that he nearly fell over laughing. Now both daughters do it and we are a great source of fun to him.

I use the luggage lock trick described in another post.
4 digit luggage lock - file off lock part. Glue somewhere (mine is on brake fluid resevoir where I can see it at a glance) with some clear epoxy resin. (Tip - don't get glue inside the mechanism or you won't be able to turn the dials)
Then whenever I fill up I dial in current kms.
At a glance I can see how many Km I have done on current tank of gas by comparing luggage lock with current odometer reading.
Works really well.
