Its tune up time for the Savage and I wanted to know what spark plug and oil type you guys recommend running in the Savage.

I was thinking a 20w50 or 10w40?  Undecided

the cap on my bike says 10w40 so i went with that... i know some here have done 15w40 i think? a lot of guys here use different brands/weights with oil. It tends to be an interesting topic.

NGK DPR8EA-9 and Castrol GTX 20W50. That plug is suppose to go out of production soon, or already has. So, I'll run the Champion version or an NGK DPR8-EIX. Stock is a 9 series plug, mine works better with an 8 heat range.

I've always been leary of the Iridium Plugs and Bosh Platniums ever since I learned that some engines don't like them too much. I.E my Saturn car eats those plugs like theres no tomorrow. Honest with in 3 weeks my car had burnt out a set of these, I've always stuck with NGK V-powers for cars.

...but I will consider giving the Iridium Plugs a try in the savage.

I put the NGK 9 series Iuridum plug in and could not believe the difference.  My bike ran smoother with better acceleration.

bosh plugs are crap,i have a  2.5 L ranger, with the 4 cylinder ,2 spark plugs per cylinder so i need eight plugs, anyhow when  i changed the plugs i  spent $18 for 8 performance bosh plugs, which made the truck run like sh!t, i checked everything, and everything was alright. so i went to the ford dealer and spent $70 on the oem plugs  Cheesy and it runs smoother than ever.

after that ordeal i did some research on bosh plugs and found many people have had the tip break of the plug and go threw the exhaust valve then out the tailpipe, and others have had them shoot out of the head.

the savage comes with a ngk so use that !!!!

Let alone not wanting to do a Ranger the second time... those plugs are a bear to change out!  Own one of those myself... Cheesy

At 602 miles I just changed the oil and filter, along with both gaskets. 2 qts 10W40 is all it took to fill her up.

Don't intend to take her to the stealer/dealer to open her up at this time for a look see at the valves or anything else.

I'll take my chances for any warrenty problems/claims that may happen in the future. In the mean time I ain't gonna worry about it.

Right now I'm trying Shell Rotella 15W40 and it seems to be doing quite well.
