Help! Carburator clamping bands On? w/ rejet?
02/23/06 at 18:07:33
I've taken the tank off and unhooked the throttle cable from the throttle wheel. Scared to take the Carb out of the bike by removing the clamping bands. Not sure how to get the throttle cable housing out of the way to get to the carb. Do I have to disconnect the clamps to get enough access to do the work?

Honestly, it really isn't necessary to remove the carb to rejet. I just did mine Tuesday. Since you have the tank off, go ahead and pop the top off the carburetor, then loosen the clamps that hold the carburetor in place. Then you can rotate the carb left or right accordingly. I found that I could rotate it right and remove the left screws with no problem, and likewise by rotating it left to remove the right side screws.
It is easiest to rotate the carb to the right (as you are sitting on the bike) to access the main jet to get it out and install the new one.
Just my .02 cents worth... hope it helps you!

Be sure to drain the fuel bowl before you take out the screws and be careful with the float when you remove the main jet. If you can get the top off the carb, you can do the white spacer mod while you have the tank off. Good Luck.

Uh hum! Since the gas tank is off, it's time to do this to for less-work-sparkplug change in the future

Just did it. Wondering about the threaded bar idea. Hacksaw to the original screw head?

I just removed the rear bolt and tightened the front one down really good. Seems to be staying in place OK.

Personally, I left that bolt out completely on mine. Only need one front bolt to keep the cover in place. Haven't moved since I put it back on
My guess is you can cut down the bolt far enough so that it helps to keep the back end in place.

I just carefully removed the bowl and dumped the gas out once the bowl was off the carb body. Worked well for me...

It will be easier to rotate the carb if you loosen the clamps.
The throttle cable is also held by a plastic coated wire attached to the right front top carb plate screw. You might need to unwrap that to release the cable to make it easier to rotate the carb, too.

There's a bowl drain screw on the very bottom of the bowl.

I drained the bowl and couldn't get to anything so I took the whole thing off and took in into the basement to work on it. It is much warmer down there.
152.5 main jet - done
1/2 spacer - done @ .0555
pilot jet screw out 1/2 a turn from where it was. Will fine tune
Hope to get it together again and do the muffler install tomorrow
