Introducing myself...
02/09/06 at 16:21:59

Hey all, my name is Tom and I just picked up a pristine 2002 Savage today!

I have to say I love this bike!  Then again, I was riding a GZ250 before, so just about anything is a big improvement. Cheesy

Looks like I've got the little backfire problem like others have mentioned, so I'll most likely start by backing out the pilot screw a little and see how that goes before I head into rejetting.

Anyhow, just wanted to introduce myself and I look forward to being a part of the discussions here! Smiley

I'm in southern Indiana if any members are around this area I'd love to meet sometime and talk Savage!

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys!  Trust me, I've already gleaned a ton from this message board so far.

Today, I began the mod process by pulling the brass plug and backing the idle mixture screw out 1-1/2 turns.  Decreased the backfiring tremendously.   Next step is to perform the white spacer mod as has been discussed.

One question I do have.  I did the needle shim mod on my GZ before I got rid of it.  That involved adding a washer underneath the white spacer on that carb.  Without having been into the Savage carb yet, is the setup pretty close to the way the GZ is laid out?  Or is it vastly different from the GZ carb?

On Savages the idea is to reduce the white spacer a bit.  Either sand it down or replace it with a couple washers that are about half as thick.
