need a new battery
12/01/05 at 10:43:25

suggestions? experiences?

options are:

1) WestCo  12V14L-B Sealed AGM
2) Power Max  GTX14AHL-BS Sealed AGM
3) UPG  UB14L-2 Sealed AGM
4) Yuasa YTX14AHL-BS

Any reason not to choose a maintenance free battery?

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

Autif

I went with a Yuasa maintenance free.  But then I am a year round rider.  If I were in the situation where the bike would be sitting for long periods, month or four, I would spring the extra for the Odyssey 'Dry Cell' as it claims to not lose it's starting ability if sitting for many months.

I would go with the maintenance-free in any case just to avoid the need to deal with adding distilled water.  I got the Odyssey because I wanted the flexibility to mount it sideways or on-end, etc. if I decide to relocate stuff on the bike.  I also liked the steel case on it which would allow me to completely ditch the stock battery box if I wanted.

Would the capacity of 12 Apm Hrs of Yuasa not be any problem. Most other batteries have 14 Amp Hrs capacity.

I love my Odyssey drycell battery, works good every time, nothing to leak or service, and can mount in any position...even upside-down.

Trust me -- not a problem.
(To prove:  take a 14 amp hour battery.  Crank for several seconds.  You're down to 12 amp hours capacity remaining.  Starting is still no problem.)
