anybody losing their plates?

Might sound weird but my bike is totally stock and totally cool except for a problem i've noticed with the plates. They crack near the bolts holding them on and if i don't catch them in time, I lose them (and then the gremlins get them)...i think it might be the draft bending them but i'm not sure...think i'll bolt on a little strip of metal to take some of the pressure off and hold them better...anybody else ever had this problem or is this a phenomenon of cheap canuck license plates.

it is the draft, and the vibration..just get a piece of aluminium and put it behind the plate then bolt it up like that.

Cheap Canadian plates, busted mine on the Rebel 250 last year. Now that I have a S40 I'm thinking of custom plates.

I've had 5-6 Savages and never had this problem untill now. The bike that I am riding now has this problem. I tried different tricks and the last that worked is that I made an aluminum plate with the shape of the reg. plate, about 2 mm thick and riveted the real plate on top of it. No more problems. I am sure it is the vibration/I have the shocks on the hardest setting/.

This happened to me on the way to Americade in the spring. I almost lost my plate as the plate ripped by the bolt and got loose on one side.
At Americade I found a dealer selling license plate frames amongst a lot of other cool stuff. I bought the chrome polished standard frame. Being away from home I had to buy 4 bolts, nuts and lock washers at Ace.
All in all, the frame supports the whole license plate and looks pretty good.

The thick metal plate frame /the one that looks like a barbed wire/, lasted about 100 miles in the city. I gave the bike to a friend to use it and when I got it back there were only couple of pieces left on the plate around the bolts.

I just realized it's not the wind/vibration breaking off these plates - it's those darn gremlins again!! Caught a couple of them fooling with the savage this morning!

And a little threadlocker on the bolts/screws attaching it never hurts either.

Used big rivets on my tag. Keeps gremlins from taking it. Also, they dont unscew themselves. Got a new tag this year. Just hit 'em with a drill, and replace..........peace of mind.

I thought bells were supposed to keep the gremlins away. I think I'll go with the threadlocker.

I lost a plate. I had those cool chrome skull bolts. Little did I know that their heads pop off.
I still need to get some bolt tight stuff and put in on there so I dont loose this one.
No more skullies, now I just have nice chrome bullets.

I was on a long dark stretch last winter and my entire plate assembly fell off and went under my fender, where it proceeded to act like a brake. A brake that occasionally takes bites out of your back tire. Luckily a motorcyclist in a cage pulled over and lent me a hand. Its seems as though things are always falling off the ol Savage. Singles....
