Posts: 287	shift lever bending 10/24/05 at 18:26:34 can they bend over time? i've had to stomp on mine a few times when going from nuetral to 1st while at a stop. should the rubberized end piece be parrallel to the ground when bike is level or is this a preference issue? thanks franch

Sometimes I'll fan the clutch lever until it pops into first but what works for me best is just a slow roll, pushing off with my foot with the clutch in & it always catches first doing that.

Let go of the clutch lever completely and then squeeze it again to get into 1st. It work for me everytime Wink

There is a linkage rod underneath about 5 or 6 inches long that you've probably bent stomping on it while not moving. I did that too. It's a fairly cheap part available at RonAyers, BikeBandit or your local dealership. I bought a spare just in case but only downshifting while moving cures it. If you made an unexpectedly fast stop and have to downshift afterward, feather the clutch to engage the current gear and then downshift... lather/rinse/repeat until in first.

Sounds like your clutch cable needs to be adjusted.
