Reelthing Serious Thumper Alliance Member Offline Fish or ride that is the question Posts: 5397 Houston,Tx Gender:	new drive pulley 10/22/05 at 16:10:42 Have had an odd sound from the drive pulley for awhile - when you would just roll the bike a buzzing would happen - as in you hear when each tooth or the belt rolled over the pulley - pulled to today and found it wasn't tight and the shaft teeth had became sharp instead of flat like the new ones.

Thats funny because when I took my drive pulley off for the first time, it only had about 5 ft. lbs of torque as well. It's a good thing it comes with a locking tab washer.

I've had mine off several times, and though I've never actually used a magnet to find out if it is solid steel (hint, hint), I do know that mine's never been retorqued to anything close to 95 lb/ft....really!

It is hard enough even with someone holding the rear brake with the bike in gear to put that much torque on it....an impact wrench would be better, but I use a mallet on the breaker bar handle. SO, how come this happens? Is it possible that the previous person didn't install the locking tab washer on the shaft correctly. If I recall, the washer matches the splines on the shaft. What if the washer was installed wrong. Isn't the inside of the nut recessed to go over the splines?

One side of the lock tab was bent down - very clean bend - looked like it could be factory.

Took a magnet to the old front pulley and the entire pulley is steel on the rear pulley the only part that is steel is the inside edge ring that bolts on.

I couldn't get 90ft/lbs on the nut either and maybe have 40 on it - I'll check it now and then - also may need to replace the spacer that fits under the pulley - it wasn't damaged but there looks to be an o-ring seal on the inside of that spacer - so a new tab lock washer, inside spacer, and bit tighter are in it's future.

Plans to replace the cam chain soon, I'll revist this area also.
