idle problem

Hello,

Thanks to the folks here, I was able to remove my carb and clean it up so the bike runs well again. Now I have a problem with the idle.

The bike ran fine until I took it to a local shop to have the idle adjusted. It has always idled kinda high, because the previous owner set it there to reduce the amount of backfiring. The shop turned it way down, just listening--this was a freebie and he couldn't get to the plug wire.

Since that time the bike has had the following problems:
- When cold, and the choke is on, the idle drops significantly. I have to apply the throttle to keep the bike from stalling.
- Idle seems to 'wander' around. Once warm, the bike idles fine. I did turn the screw back up from where the guy had it, but I can't seem to find the place where it was before. it's always too high or too low once warm and I have to keep adjusting it.
- Once the bike is warm, and the screw is adjusted so the bike is happy, idle is fine.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Derek

You said that twice Smiley

Are you using full choke or half choke...or do you really need the choke?

Take a look for air leaks.
