you need to do a plug chop. A real plug chop.
Plug chop:
1. Install new plug or clean old plug with sandblaster. Make sure it is gapped correctly.
2. Start bike. Allow it to warm up.
3. Smoke a cigarette while waitng for it to warm up.
4. Go for a highway ride.
5. After 5 to 7 miles in fifth gear (or fourth, for pre '96, I belive; you know who you are
) at 30% below redline,
KILL the engine and coast to a stop. It is important to
KILL the engine WHILE at high RPM. If you keep it running, you will end up with some gas from the midrange jet on the plug and you will get a false reading.
6. Let bike cool down a little.
7. Remove plug and inspect.
Then you can do the same thing for the midrange (pilot) jet, but at 40 mph or so.
Anyone remember what our redline is?
Gazab's "plug door method" in the tech sect. may be helpful for plug chops since otherwise you have to yank off the gas tank too...
