CONTROL UNIT ISSUES
08/31/05 at 20:05:33

Has anyone besides myself had issues w\ the control unit? It is the black box above carb behind gas tank. Sits on a tab where rear frame rails meet main tube.

It is a sealed unit & mine had water in it, causing damage to unit. Some symptoms are starter relay engages & drains battery, starter will engage w\ ign off & key out.

Will check schematic but I belive it deals w\ at the least the starter relay & compression release.

Has anyone eliminated this unit & come up w\ an alternate?

Easiest way is to get another one ( from E-bay). Then open up the one you have and see what's inside. I read in another forum ( German) that it can be repaired by anyone with electronics knowledge.

Yep.  That is the decompression module.  You could eliminate it if you can find a way to rewire the ignition module and the starter relay.
