foot pegs.. are they strong enough!?
08/25/05 at 22:09:16
1. Due to the road conditions (NYC) I am forced to go over the bumps and potholes in a half standing position. This probably puts a lot of pressure on foot pegs (speed + my weight 180lbs). I am wondering are foot pegs designed for this kind of pressure? After all this is not a dual sport bike.
2. Small windshield. Will it actually add to the gas mileage if installed?
Thanks.

about the same weight here - I lift up off the seat quite frequently but only a couple inches - no problem with the pegs so far - but I do check the bolts and keep them tight.
and could not tell any MPG difference with the windshield

Closer to 200 pounds, I lift off the seat going over railroads and dips and bumps.

I also put full pressure (don't really get out of the seat) when going over bumps and tracks. One road I ride is 40 miles of expansion cracks (believe it or not, Illinois put a bunch of mechanisms in their roads to intentionally cause cracks - instead of saw cutting some years back - unless the mechanisms were exactly lined up with the road surface not only did they cause cracks, but bumps as well
) so along I go every 50 to 100 feet putting pressure on my pegs.

They should be plenty strong. I average 230-250 pounds, and never broke the pegs on the one I used to ride. They do need some shimming though to take out the side play. That they had since day one. Pegs that move back and forth can be rather disconcerting.

I grew up outside syracuse and that is some great country to ride in but roads do suck. I was out there in april towards the end on the month and got some snow. 8)

I stood on mine a few times when I weighed 260. (Yeah, I'm workin' on it) My next performance upgrade is to weigh 190.

I have small windshield; it does not improve mileage but it does make the bike more well-behaved/stable at speed above 70 mph

I don't think I've noticed any difference in MPG with the windshield either but it sure helps keep a lot of crap off of me when the roads are wet and cages are slinging crud.
