Ability to easily pass 100 mph has been a criterion for every bike I've considered.

if you read my top speed post of yesterday i did make 96 totally stock laying prone, so it's close and will be there after the performance mods

I like KISS, but I also like RIMCS -- Redundancy In Mission-Critical Systems.

I figure if one cylinder stops firing on my current bike, I can still limp home on the other one.  Grin

Thanks for all the comments!

(Still digging that Volusia 800.  Except for its weight!)

There isn't anything wrong per se with shaft drive or liquid cooling. Unless you like/have to ride on dirt roads. The only shaft drive I ever killed (well, obliterated, totalled, completely f'n destroyed to be honest) was a BMW R50. When the shaft let go, the frame basically exploded. Along with the transmission. And the cush drive.

Ever "hole" a bike radiator or aluminum cylinder coolant passage? Just as an FYI, a USED VS800 radiator is close to  2 bills... Hondas are much more expensive...

Buy what you like. ALL bikes have their strong AND weak points, regardless of drive system. Me? I'll NEVER buy another belt or shaft driven bike. I like the low maintenance factor, however, the repair bills are WAY too pricey when something does eventually go "T.U.".

Give me a CB750 (any letter code is fine) or a 6 volt kick only V-twin and I'm a happy biker.

Varied bunch of choices everyone!
Since the price of gasoline is outrageous here these days ($1.03CDN per liter) ... fuel for "toys" such as m/c's along with fuel for the cages + 5% hike in electricity rates and climbing costs of groceries (see related fuel cost ...) ... well it's all startin' to hurt ... am seriously considering selling my beloved Savage and buying a 150cc scooter ... a more pratical commuter, very stingy on fuel and I still get my 2-wheeled fun (sort of ...) Sad

Please understand that I would never part with my Savage...too emotionally attached to it.  (On my morning ride day before yesterday, on a very nice long straight stretch of country road I had the needle buried  past the 100 mark...the cheap tach bounces a bit above 6500 so don't know the exact rpm...but was sitting bolt upright doing it(

But if I had the $$ today, I would order one of the new Nortons.

Norton 952
961cc
80 hp
70 lb/ft torque
Brembo brakes...front and rear
Ohlins forks up front and shocks in the rear
4.5 gal tank (wouldn't that be nice)
And....all of that is just 415 lbs.

Price is somewhere around $17k

Man o man, what a ride that would be....fast....quick...stops...turns...take any bump in the road.....it is a bike to be riden.......AND it LOOKS like a motorcycle should look, not all covered over with plastic wallpaper.

Is this not a beautiful  machine?

I have a picture posted on the wall.......SOMEDAY.

Nope.  But I do know of an 8-cylinder cage that became a 7-cylinder with a cypress stump that worked just fine.

Makes sense!  I may reconsider my position on cleaning chains.

Probably a Royal Enfield 500 or BMW 650, or maybe one of the Muzzy single dual sports. Max
