I am assuming that this is about a new bike, and not any bike that was ever produced.  There are lots of bikes that I have owned in the past that I would like to have back, but if I had to replace the Savage today, then I think that the only bike available that shares most of the features that I love in the Savage is the Royal Enfield.  Of course, now that Royal Enfield  has gone to injection, the Savage is the only air cooled, carbureted, big single road bike sold in the U.S.  If it didn't exist, I guess that I would just have to turn to classic bikes.

i really like the old kz1000 or a bonnie....not a fan of huge bikes with too much crap on em!

i love the 4 into one header on the kz....pretty sure u gotta take the one from a 900 and put it on the 1000...but it would look awesome in header wrap!

why are there only like two riders on here who have voted for a sportster?? is there something wrong with HD that i  and the rest of america are just not understanding? what is the deal?? i would definent,y go for  sportster next and I WILL. why does everyone seems tio think that japanese bikes are better?? dont get me wrong, i love the way this bike is put together(almost). but really there is so much more aftermarket and mainline support for the sprtster. the guts i know who have 883's have had  no problems for several thousand miles. SO WHAT IS THE IS PROBLEM!!?? (besides ego)

I've got to say the problem is your's, 'I'm gonna get a HD and why aren't you?'  There are a lot of riders here with long histories of many bikes from all over the world.  Are we wrong for wanting something different... naw.  Are you wrong for wanting the 'American' m/c... naw.  But quit trying to prove your decision is the right one to me.  Hey you got 2 wheels, me too, great, good looking ride, yada, yada, yada...

i have a savage and i love it!! if i had to upgrade being that my bike bit the dust and i had the cash(not credit) on hand to purchase one...i would buy a sportster. it seems that the reas you give for not getting a harely is to be different. honestly besides the savage, all the other metric cruisers seem almost like imitations. why not have the real thing? i dont own a HD and dont forsee that happening in the next several years but WHY discount the machine? as a novice rider i am curious. for now i ride a savage, and i am very happy with it!! this is a "if,then" thread so i REALLY want to know!!!! besides the " i am better than than a harley" what is the problem?

IMO the Savage is almost as good as a sportster for a lot less money.. a way better deal.

As for the thread topic - now that I am down to a sane(r) 3 bikes, all the bases I care about are covered:

dirt - Honda CRF230
adventure touring - DR650
hooligan antics and brapping past old ladies - Husky sm610  Cheesy

CoolAmaze your friend by finding which cylinder is missing with a squirt gun! Just squirt the exhaust pipes near the head & the one that doesn't sizzle is missing. Pull that plug wire & check for spark, if it sparks all that's left is fuel or compression. Bad compression on one cylinder will usually cause a multi-cylinder engine to have a 'skip' sound when cranking.
Just a quick & dirty trick to help you survive in the world. Roll Eyes
