Battery vent tube
06/14/05 at 10:49:57

I have a dead Yuasa Yumicron battery - YB14L-B2.
The vent tube is on the right side of the battery
My question: will a YB14L-A2 (vent tube on LEFT) fit into the case? No one stocks the B2, but I've found many A2's.
Bike not accessible 'til weekend, & I wanted to have the battery ready.
I will also use a different brand if necess. if you know the part numbers.
Bike shops 'round here are not too helpful with vague requests... Smiley
TIA!

According to yuasabatteries.com the Yausa YTX14AHL-BS will work – this is what I’m currently running in my bike and it works perfectly.

I replaced my stock YB14L-B2 with a Yuasa High Performance Maintenance Free YTX14AHL-BS.  $54.86 + $4.39 sales tax + $6 shipping from https://www.bikebandit.com/partsbandit/Default.asp.    Arrived overnight from San Diego.  Ground shipping only, so your delivery time may be longer but you save the tax if out-of-state.  No vent tube, no checking fluid level.   Or you could go with an Odyssey 'Dry Cell' which in addition to no fluid check and no tube will start the bike after sitting in the Garage unattended for six or eight months.

http://motorcyclebatteriesusa.com/battery-details.asp?battery=278 is a KoYo KTX14AHL ($55.75 free ship) Sealed Battery, AGM technology, no vent tube.

If you need the battery sooner most larger auto part stores carry motorcycle batteries, but I would have the old one in hand to verify size and connector type and connector polarity.

A2 requires you to notch the lid AND the box. No biggie, the side panel does a tolerable job of concealing it. I stock the correct one at work...$41.95...a Wal-mart A2 is $24.95...guess which one I run in mine?

be careful i put the a2 on my bike and could not put tool pouch holder back on the bike becuse of the drain plug and leaked acid all over the batt.box  :'( so i went with the Maintenance Free batt. no drain so the cover fit

That's why you notch the box, so the vent works on the left side. No problems, even without running a vent hose. As for the "tools", a lower triple tree mounted or handlebar mounted tool bag is more convenient.

I did the same as WD, but I did attach th drain hose and run it snugly around the front and back inside the battery box through thr front cutout and back down to the stock position.  My walmart battery workc perfectly fine.

I started my savage up for the 1st time since last October (no winterizing of the bike, or charging of the battery done at all).  She had plenty of power and started on the 3rd try.
